Phil Ivey has been labeled as the number one poker competitor in the world by most of the top professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before his first birthday. His grandpa taught him one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was hooked on poker and wished to learn everything he could about poker. He would tell his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil did not allow the adverse feedback from others destroy his ambition of becoming one of the greatest poker players on the planet.

Phil started playing intently after acquiring a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his abilities at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The first number of years for Phil were a learning experience and coming away with a win was not a common thing at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 WSOP where he achieved two final tables and came away with his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the closing table he defeated a number of the well known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his skills to the successive level and headed out west to Vegas. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Ivey credits his achievements to hard work and an immeasurable love for poker. Phil states that he is picking up skills every day and is very humble about his success. He knows he makes errors in each game of poker and always strives to improve.

Although Ivey has won some big tournaments, he prefers winning cash games on a normal basis.
