Phil Ivey has been labeled as the greatest poker contender in the world by quite a few of the top professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before reaching the age of one. His papa taught Phil penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was hooked on poker and wished to discover whatever he could about poker. He routinely would tell his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil did not allow the adverse feedback from other people kill his dream of becoming one of the greatest poker players on the planet.

Phil began competing intently after getting a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his game at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for Phil were a learning opportunity and winning wasn’t a normal thing at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 WSOP when he made two final tables and won his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the final table he destroyed quite a few of the better known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He made a decision to take his game to the next level and moved out west to Sin City. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Ivey credits his achievements to dedication and an immeasurable passion for poker. He states that he is learning every single day and is very humble about his achievements. Phil knows he makes errors in each game of poker and always strives to improve.

Even though Phil has won some large tournaments, he likes destroying cash games on a normal basis.
