Phil Ivey has been branded as the number one poker competitor in the world by many of the top-ranked pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before reaching the age of 1. His papa taught him penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was addicted to poker and wanted to pickup whatever he could about the game. He routinely told his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil did not allow the detrimental feedback from other people annihilate his goal of being one of the best poker players in the world.

Phil began competing seriously after acquiring a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his game at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The initial number of years for him were a teaching experience and winning was not a regular thing at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 WSOP where he made two final tables and won his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the final table he destroyed a number of the well known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his game to the successive level and moved out west to Vegas. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Ivey credits his achievements to dedication and a continuing love for poker. He states that he is picking up skills every day and is very abashed about his accomplishments. He knows he makes mistakes every single game of poker and constantly strives to improve.

Although Ivey has come first in some big-time tournaments, he likes destroying money games on a normal basis.
