Phil Ivey has been referred to as the number one poker competitor on the planet by many of the top-ranked pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before his first birthday. His grandfather showed him to penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to learn every little thing he could about poker. Phil routinely told his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil did not allow the negative feedback from other people annihilate his dream of being one of the strongest poker players on the planet.

Phil started competing seriously after acquiring a false ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his abilities at the casinos of Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for him were a teaching opportunity and winning wasn’t a regular outcome at the time. He became known at the 2000 WSOP when he achieved 2 final tables and came away with his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the final table he destroyed many of the well known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his skills to the successive level and moved out west to Sin City. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Phil credits his achievements to hard work and a continuing passion for poker. He states that he is picking up skills every single day and is very abashed about his achievements. He admits to making mistakes in each game of poker and constantly aspires to get better.

Although Ivey has come first in some large tournaments, he favors winning money games on a normal basis.
