Aug 142018

Phil Ivey has been labeled as the number one poker contender in the world by most of the top-ranked professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before his first birthday. His grandpa taught Phil one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was hooked on poker and wished to discover every little thing he could about poker. He routinely told his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t let the adverse feedback from other people annihilate his dream of becoming one of the best poker players on the planet.

Phil started playing intently after acquiring a false ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his game at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The initial number of years for Phil were a teaching experience and winning wasn’t a regular outcome at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 WSOP where he made 2 final tables and came away with his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the last table he destroyed many of the better known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil made a decision to take his skills to the successive level and moved out west to Las Vegas. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Phil credits his achievements to dedication and a continuing love for the game of poker. Phil says that he’s learning every day and is incredibly abashed about his success. He knows he makes blunders every single session of poker and always strives to improve.

Although Ivey has come first in some big-time tournaments, he prefers winning cash games on a normal basis.
