Phil Ivey has been referred to as the number one poker contender on the globe by most of the top-ranked pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before reaching the age of one. His papa taught him one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was hooked on poker and wished to discover anything he could about poker. He routinely told his grandparents that he was going to be a professional poker player. He didn’t allow the negative feedback from other people destroy his goal of being one of the best poker competitors in the world.

Phil began playing intently after acquiring a false ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his skills at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The beginning few years for him were a teaching opportunity and coming away with a win was not a common outcome at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he made 2 final tables and won his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the final table he defeated a number of the better known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his skills to the next level and moved out west to Sin City. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Phil credits his achievements to discipline and an undying passion for poker. Phil says that he is learning every day and is very humble about his achievements. He admits to making errors every single game of poker and constantly strives to get better.

Although Phil has won some large tournaments, he favors winning money games on a regular basis.
