Phil Ivey has been branded as the number one poker player in the world by quite a few of the top-ranked pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before reaching the age of 1. His grandpa taught Phil one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was addicted to poker and wanted to pickup anything he could about the game. Phil routinely would tell his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil did not let the negative feedback from others kill his dream of becoming one of the greatest poker competitors in the world.

Phil began competing intently after acquiring a false ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his game at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for Phil were a learning experience and coming away with a win was not a normal thing at the time. He became known at the 2000 WSOP where he made 2 final tables and won his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the closing table he destroyed many of the better known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his game to the next level and moved out west to Las Vegas. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Ivey credits his achievements to dedication and an eternal love for poker. He states that he’s picking up skills every single day and is quite abashed about his success. He knows he makes errors every single session of poker and constantly aspires to improve.

Even though Ivey has won some big-time tournaments, he favors destroying cash games on a regular basis.
