Phil Ivey has been branded as the number one poker contender on the globe by quite a few of the top-ranked professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before reaching the age of 1. His papa taught him one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was addicted to poker and wished to discover every little thing he possibly could about the game. He routinely would tell his elders that he was going to be a professional poker player. He did not allow the negative feedback from other people annihilate his ambition of being one of the best poker players in the world.

Phil started competing seriously after getting a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his skills at the casinos in Atlantic City. The first few years for Phil were a learning experience and winning wasn’t a common thing at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he achieved two final tables and won his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the closing table he defeated many of the well known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his skills to the successive level and moved out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Ivey credits his success to hard work and a continuing love for poker. Phil states that he is learning every day and is quite abashed about his achievements. Phil knows he makes errors every single session of poker and constantly strives to improve.

Despite the fact that Phil has won some large tournaments, he favors winning cash games on a regular basis.
