Phil Ivey has been branded as the number one poker competitor in the world by many of the top professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before his first birthday. His grandpa introduced him to one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was addicted to poker and wished to pickup everything he possibly could about the game. Phil would tell his grandparents that he was going to be a professional poker player. He didn’t permit the negative feedback from others annihilate his goal of becoming one of the best poker players on the planet.

He began competing intently after acquiring a false ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his game at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The initial number of years for him were a learning experience and winning was not a regular thing at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 WSOP where he made 2 final tables and came away with his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the last table he destroyed many of the well known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil made a decision to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Vegas. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Phil credits his achievements to hard work and an immeasurable love for poker. He says that he is picking up skills every day and is incredibly abashed about his accomplishments. He knows he makes blunders every single game of poker and always strives to improve.

Despite the fact that Ivey has come first in some big tournaments, he favors winning cash games on a normal basis.
