Phil Ivey has been branded as the best poker competitor on the planet by quite a few of the top professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before his first birthday. His grandfather taught him one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was addicted to poker and wished to learn everything he possibly could about poker. Phil routinely would tell his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil did not permit the detrimental comments from other people destroy his ambition of becoming one of the greatest poker competitors in the world.
Phil began playing seriously after getting a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his skills at the casinos of Atlantic City. The beginning few years for Phil were a teaching experience and coming away with a win was not a common outcome at the time. He became known at the 2000 WSOP where he made two final tables and won his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the closing table he defeated a number of the well known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He decided to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Sin City. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Phil credits his success to hard work and an eternal love for the game of poker. He states that he’s picking up skills every day and is very abashed about his success. He knows he makes errors in each game of poker and always aspires to get better.
Even though Phil has won some large tournaments, he prefers destroying cash games on a normal basis.
