Phil Ivey has been labeled as the greatest poker competitor on the globe by most of the top-ranked professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before his first birthday. His grandpa taught Phil penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to learn whatever he could about the game. He routinely told his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He didn’t let the negative feedback from others kill his ambition of becoming one of the strongest poker competitors in the world.

Phil began playing seriously after getting a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his techniques at the casinos in Atlantic City. The beginning few years for him were a learning opportunity and winning wasn’t a normal outcome at the time. He became known at the 2000 WSOP when he made 2 final tables and won his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the final table he destroyed many of the well known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his skills to the successive level and headed out west to Las Vegas. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Phil credits his achievements to dedication and an eternal passion for the game of poker. Phil states that he is picking up skills every day and is very abashed about his achievements. Phil knows he makes mistakes in each game of poker and constantly aspires to get better.

Even though Phil has come first in some big-time tournaments, he likes destroying cash games on a regular basis.
