Phil Ivey has been referred to as the greatest poker competitor on the globe by most of the top-ranked pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before his first birthday. His grandfather taught him one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was addicted to poker and wished to discover every little thing he possibly could about poker. Phil would tell his grandparents that he was going to be a professional poker player. He didn’t permit the adverse comments from others annihilate his goal of becoming one of the best poker competitors on the planet.
Phil started playing intently after acquiring a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his techniques at the casinos of Atlantic City. The beginning few years for Phil were a teaching experience and winning was not a normal thing at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he achieved two final tables and won his first WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the last table he defeated a number of the better known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil decided to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Vegas. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Phil credits his achievements to hard work and an eternal passion for the game of poker. Phil says that he is picking up skills every single day and is very humble about his accomplishments. He knows he makes errors every single game of poker and always strives to get better.
Even though Phil has won some large tournaments, he likes destroying money games on a regular basis.
