Phil Ivey has been referred to as the best poker contender on the planet by quite a few of the top-ranked professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before his first birthday. His papa taught Phil penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was addicted to poker and wanted to learn anything he could about poker. Phil would tell his parents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. Phil did not let the negative comments from other people destroy his ambition of becoming one of the strongest poker players on the planet.
He started playing seriously after acquiring a false ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his game at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The initial few years for Phil were a learning period and coming away with a win wasn’t a common outcome at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he made 2 final tables and won his first WSOP bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the last table he destroyed quite a few of the better known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil decided to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Las Vegas. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Phil credits his success to dedication and an undying love for the game of poker. Phil states that he is learning every day and is quite humble about his achievements. Phil knows he makes errors in each game of poker and always aspires to get better.
Even though Phil has come first in some big-time tournaments, he favors winning money games on a regular basis.
