Phil Ivey has been referred to as the greatest poker player on the globe by many of the top professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before his first birthday. His grandfather taught him penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to discover anything he could about poker. Phil routinely told his parents that he was going to be a professional poker player. Phil did not let the detrimental feedback from others destroy his goal of becoming one of the strongest poker players on the planet.
Phil began playing intently after acquiring a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his skills at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The first few years for Phil were a teaching opportunity and winning was not a common thing at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 WSOP where he achieved two final tables and came away with his first WSOP bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the closing table he destroyed quite a few of the well known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He decided to take his skills to the successive level and moved out west to Sin City. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Ivey credits his success to dedication and a continuing love for poker. He states that he is learning every day and is very humble about his achievements. Phil admits to making blunders every single session of poker and always aspires to improve.
Despite the fact that Ivey has won some large tournaments, he prefers destroying money games on a regular basis.
