Phil Ivey has been labeled as the greatest poker player on the planet by quite a few of the top professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before reaching the age of one. His grandpa taught him penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to learn every little thing he could about the game. Phil routinely would tell his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil did not let the adverse comments from others destroy his dream of being one of the strongest poker players in the world.

He began competing intently after acquiring a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his skills at the casinos in Atlantic City. The first few years for Phil were a learning opportunity and winning wasn’t a regular thing at the time. He became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he achieved 2 final tables and won his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the last table he destroyed many of the better known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his skills to the successive level and headed out west to Vegas. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Ivey credits his success to discipline and an immeasurable love for the game of poker. Phil says that he’s learning every single day and is incredibly humble about his achievements. Phil knows he makes errors in each game of poker and always aspires to get better.

Despite the fact that Phil has come first in some big-time tournaments, he prefers winning money games on a normal basis.
