Jan 152021

Phil Ivey has been labeled as the greatest poker competitor in the world by most of the top-ranked pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before his first birthday. His grandfather taught Phil penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to pickup every little thing he could about poker. Phil routinely told his parents that he was going to be a professional poker player. He did not let the adverse feedback from other people kill his goal of becoming one of the best poker competitors in the world.

He began playing intently after acquiring a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his skills at the casinos of Atlantic City. The beginning few years for him were a teaching period and coming away with a win wasn’t a normal thing at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 WSOP when he achieved 2 final tables and won his first WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the final table he destroyed many of the well known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his game to the next level and moved out west to Las Vegas. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Ivey credits his success to discipline and an undying love for poker. Phil says that he’s learning every single day and is quite abashed about his achievements. Phil knows he makes blunders every single session of poker and always strives to improve.

Although Ivey has come first in some large tournaments, he prefers destroying money games on a normal basis.
