Phil Ivey has been referred to as the best poker competitor on the planet by most of the top pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before reaching turning 1. His grandfather taught Phil one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to pickup every little thing he could about the game. He would tell his elders that he was planning on being a professional poker player. He did not allow the adverse feedback from other people destroy his dream of being one of the strongest poker competitors on the planet.

He started playing intently after getting a false ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his techniques at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The beginning few years for Phil were a teaching experience and coming away with a win wasn’t a common thing at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 WSOP when he achieved two final tables and came away with his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the final table he defeated many of the well known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Sin City. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Phil credits his success to discipline and an undying passion for the game of poker. He states that he is learning every day and is quite abashed about his success. Phil admits to making errors in each session of poker and constantly strives to improve.

Although Phil has won some big-time tournaments, he favors destroying money games on a normal basis.
