Phil Ivey has been branded as the best poker player on the planet by quite a few of the top-ranked pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before his first birthday. His papa taught Phil one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to discover whatever he could about poker. Phil routinely told his parents that he was going to be a professional poker player. Phil did not let the detrimental comments from others kill his ambition of becoming one of the best poker players on the planet.
Phil began competing intently after acquiring a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his abilities at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The initial few years for Phil were a learning experience and coming away with a win wasn’t a common thing at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 WSOP where he achieved two final tables and came away with his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the last table he defeated quite a few of the better known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil made a decision to take his game to the successive level and headed out west to Sin City. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Ivey credits his achievements to dedication and a continuing love for poker. He states that he is learning every day and is quite abashed about his success. Phil knows he makes blunders every single session of poker and always aspires to improve.
Although Phil has come first in some large tournaments, he favors winning cash games on a normal basis.
