Phil Ivey has been labeled as the best poker contender in the world by most of the top-ranked professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before reaching the age of 1. His papa introduced him to penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was hooked on poker and wished to learn everything he possibly could about poker. He routinely told his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil did not allow the negative comments from others destroy his dream of becoming one of the best poker competitors in the world.
Phil began competing intently after acquiring a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his abilities at the casinos in Atlantic City. The first few years for Phil were a learning period and winning wasn’t a common outcome at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 WSOP when he made 2 final tables and came away with his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the final table he destroyed a number of the better known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He decided to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Vegas. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Ivey credits his success to dedication and a continuing love for poker. Phil states that he is picking up skills every single day and is incredibly humble about his success. Phil knows he makes blunders in each game of poker and always aspires to get better.
Even though Ivey has won some big tournaments, he favors destroying cash games on a regular basis.
