Phil Ivey has been labeled as the greatest poker competitor on the globe by most of the top professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before reaching the age of 1. His grandpa taught Phil one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to pickup every little thing he could about the game. He would tell his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil did not permit the negative feedback from other people kill his dream of being one of the best poker competitors on the planet.

He began competing intently after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his abilities at the casinos of Atlantic City. The beginning few years for Phil were a teaching experience and coming away with a win was not a common thing at the time. He became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he made 2 final tables and came away with his first WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the closing table he destroyed quite a few of the better known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Vegas. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Ivey credits his achievements to discipline and an undying passion for the game of poker. Phil says that he is picking up skills every day and is quite humble about his accomplishments. He admits to making errors in each session of poker and constantly aspires to get better.

Even though Ivey has won some big-time tournaments, he likes destroying cash games on a regular basis.
