Phil Ivey has been branded as the greatest poker contender on the planet by quite a few of the top-ranked professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before his first birthday. His papa taught Phil one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was addicted to poker and wanted to pickup anything he possibly could about poker. He would tell his parents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. Phil didn’t allow the negative feedback from other people destroy his dream of being one of the best poker competitors on the planet.

He started competing seriously after acquiring a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his game at the casinos of Atlantic City. The initial number of years for him were a learning period and winning wasn’t a regular thing at the time. He became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he achieved 2 final tables and won his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the closing table he defeated many of the better known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his skills to the successive level and moved out west to Vegas. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Ivey credits his achievements to dedication and a continuing passion for poker. Phil says that he’s picking up skills every day and is quite humble about his accomplishments. He knows he makes mistakes in each session of poker and always aspires to improve.

Despite the fact that Phil has won some large tournaments, he prefers winning money games on a normal basis.
