Phil Ivey has been labeled as the greatest poker player on the globe by many of the top-ranked pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before reaching the age of 1. His grandfather taught Phil one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to pickup whatever he possibly could about poker. Phil would tell his grandparents that he was going to be a professional poker player. He did not permit the adverse comments from others kill his goal of becoming one of the best poker players on the planet.
He started competing intently after acquiring a false ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his game at the casinos in Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for Phil were a teaching opportunity and winning wasn’t a common outcome at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 WSOP when he made 2 final tables and won his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the closing table he defeated a number of the better known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He decided to take his skills to the successive level and headed out west to Las Vegas. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Ivey credits his success to discipline and a continuing passion for the game of poker. Phil states that he’s learning every day and is very abashed about his accomplishments. Phil admits to making mistakes every single game of poker and constantly strives to improve.
Despite the fact that Phil has come first in some big tournaments, he likes destroying money games on a regular basis.
