Phil Ivey has been branded as the greatest poker player in the world by quite a few of the top-ranked professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before his first birthday. His grandpa showed him to penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was hooked on poker and wished to discover whatever he could about poker. Phil routinely told his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He did not allow the negative feedback from others destroy his goal of becoming one of the strongest poker competitors in the world.

Phil began competing seriously after acquiring a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his skills at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The initial number of years for Phil were a teaching opportunity and coming away with a win was not a normal outcome at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 WSOP where he achieved 2 final tables and won his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the closing table he defeated many of the well known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his skills to the successive level and moved out west to Sin City. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Phil credits his achievements to hard work and an undying love for poker. He states that he’s learning every single day and is very abashed about his achievements. He admits to making blunders in each game of poker and constantly aspires to get better.

Despite the fact that Ivey has come first in some large tournaments, he prefers winning cash games on a regular basis.
