Phil Ivey has been referred to as the greatest poker player in the world by quite a few of the top-ranked pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before his first birthday. His grandpa introduced him to one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to pickup every little thing he could about poker. Phil routinely told his elders that he was planning on being a professional poker player. Phil didn’t let the adverse comments from others kill his goal of becoming one of the best poker players on the planet.

Phil started competing seriously after getting a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his game at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for him were a teaching opportunity and winning was not a common thing at the time. He became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he achieved 2 final tables and came away with his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the last table he destroyed a number of the well known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his skills to the next level and moved out west to Vegas. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Ivey credits his success to dedication and an eternal passion for poker. He says that he is learning every single day and is quite humble about his achievements. He knows he makes mistakes every single game of poker and constantly strives to get better.

Even though Phil has come first in some big-time tournaments, he likes destroying cash games on a regular basis.
