Phil Ivey has been referred to as the best poker competitor on the globe by many of the top pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before reaching the age of one. His grandfather taught him one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was addicted to poker and wished to discover everything he possibly could about the game. Phil routinely told his grandparents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. Phil did not let the negative feedback from other people annihilate his goal of being one of the greatest poker competitors in the world.

He started competing intently after acquiring a false ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his skills at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The first number of years for Phil were a learning experience and winning was not a regular outcome at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 WSOP where he made 2 final tables and won his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the closing table he destroyed many of the better known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil made a decision to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Sin City. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Phil credits his success to hard work and a continuing passion for the game of poker. Phil says that he is picking up skills every day and is very humble about his accomplishments. Phil knows he makes errors in each game of poker and constantly strives to improve.

Despite the fact that Ivey has come first in some large tournaments, he favors winning cash games on a regular basis.
