Phil Ivey has been branded as the best poker player on the planet by most of the top-ranked pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before reaching the age of one. His grandpa taught Phil one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was hooked on poker and wished to pickup everything he possibly could about poker. Phil routinely would tell his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t allow the negative comments from others annihilate his ambition of being one of the best poker players in the world.

He started playing seriously after acquiring a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his abilities at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The first few years for Phil were a learning opportunity and winning wasn’t a regular thing at the time. He became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he made two final tables and won his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the last table he destroyed many of the better known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He made a decision to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Ivey credits his success to discipline and a continuing love for the game of poker. He states that he is picking up skills every day and is incredibly humble about his achievements. Phil admits to making mistakes every single game of poker and always aspires to improve.

Although Ivey has come first in some big-time tournaments, he likes winning cash games on a normal basis.
