Phil Ivey has been branded as the number one poker competitor in the world by many of the top professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before his first birthday. His grandfather showed him to penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was addicted to poker and wanted to pickup everything he could about poker. Phil routinely told his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He did not let the negative feedback from others destroy his goal of being one of the best poker players in the world.

He began playing seriously after getting a false ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his game at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The first few years for Phil were a teaching period and winning was not a normal thing at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he made 2 final tables and came away with his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the closing table he destroyed many of the well known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his game to the next level and moved out west to Vegas. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Phil credits his success to dedication and an immeasurable love for poker. Phil says that he is picking up skills every single day and is incredibly abashed about his success. He knows he makes mistakes every single session of poker and constantly strives to get better.

Even though Phil has come first in some large tournaments, he likes winning cash games on a normal basis.
