Phil Ivey has been referred to as the best poker player in the world by most of the top-ranked pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before his first birthday. His grandfather taught Phil one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to learn anything he possibly could about the game. He routinely told his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He did not permit the detrimental feedback from other people annihilate his ambition of becoming one of the strongest poker competitors in the world.

Phil started competing seriously after acquiring a false ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his abilities at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The initial number of years for Phil were a teaching opportunity and winning was not a common outcome at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 WSOP when he made 2 final tables and won his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the final table he defeated many of the well known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He made a decision to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Sin City. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Ivey credits his success to hard work and an eternal passion for poker. Phil says that he’s picking up skills every day and is incredibly humble about his accomplishments. He knows he makes blunders in each session of poker and constantly aspires to get better.

Despite the fact that Phil has come first in some big-time tournaments, he likes winning money games on a normal basis.
