Phil Ivey has been labeled as the greatest poker competitor on the globe by quite a few of the top-ranked professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before reaching turning one. His grandpa introduced him to penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to pickup whatever he possibly could about poker. He would tell his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil did not allow the detrimental feedback from others destroy his ambition of being one of the greatest poker players in the world.
He began competing seriously after getting a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his techniques at the casinos of Atlantic City. The initial number of years for Phil were a learning experience and coming away with a win was not a common outcome at the time. He became known at the 2000 WSOP where he made 2 final tables and won his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the closing table he destroyed a number of the better known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil decided to take his game to the successive level and headed out west to Las Vegas. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Ivey credits his achievements to hard work and an undying love for the game of poker. He states that he’s learning every day and is very humble about his accomplishments. Phil knows he makes blunders in each session of poker and always aspires to improve.
Despite the fact that Ivey has come first in some large tournaments, he prefers destroying money games on a normal basis.
