Phil Ivey has been branded as the best poker contender on the planet by quite a few of the top professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before his first birthday. His grandfather introduced him to one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was addicted to poker and wanted to learn every little thing he could about the game. He routinely told his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He did not permit the detrimental feedback from other people annihilate his dream of becoming one of the greatest poker players on the planet.

He started competing seriously after acquiring a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his skills at the casinos of Atlantic City. The beginning few years for him were a teaching experience and coming away with a win was not a common outcome at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 WSOP where he made 2 final tables and came away with his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the final table he defeated a number of the well known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil made a decision to take his skills to the next level and moved out west to Sin City. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Phil credits his achievements to discipline and an immeasurable passion for poker. He states that he’s picking up skills every single day and is quite abashed about his success. He admits to making mistakes in each session of poker and always aspires to get better.

Although Ivey has come first in some large tournaments, he favors destroying cash games on a normal basis.
