Phil Ivey has been branded as the best poker contender in the world by most of the top-ranked pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before reaching the age of one. His grandpa introduced him to one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was addicted to poker and wished to pickup whatever he possibly could about the game. Phil routinely told his elders that he was planning on being a professional poker player. He did not let the adverse feedback from other people kill his dream of becoming one of the best poker competitors on the planet.

Phil began competing intently after getting a false ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his skills at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The initial few years for him were a learning experience and winning wasn’t a regular thing at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he made two final tables and won his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the final table he defeated a number of the better known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his game to the next level and moved out west to Vegas. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Ivey credits his achievements to discipline and an immeasurable love for the game of poker. Phil says that he’s learning every single day and is quite humble about his success. He admits to making mistakes in each session of poker and constantly strives to improve.

Despite the fact that Phil has come first in some big-time tournaments, he favors winning cash games on a normal basis.
