Phil Ivey has been labeled as the best poker competitor on the planet by most of the top-ranked professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before his first birthday. His grandfather taught Phil one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was addicted to poker and wished to discover every little thing he possibly could about poker. He routinely told his elders that he was going to be a professional poker player. He did not allow the negative feedback from others destroy his ambition of being one of the greatest poker players in the world.
Phil started playing seriously after acquiring a false ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his skills at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The initial number of years for Phil were a teaching period and coming away with a win was not a regular thing at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he achieved 2 final tables and came away with his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the closing table he destroyed many of the better known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He decided to take his game to the successive level and headed out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Ivey credits his achievements to discipline and a continuing love for the game of poker. Phil states that he is picking up skills every single day and is very abashed about his accomplishments. Phil knows he makes errors in each session of poker and constantly aspires to improve.
Even though Ivey has won some big-time tournaments, he prefers winning money games on a normal basis.
