Phil Ivey has been referred to as the best poker player on the planet by quite a few of the top pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before his first birthday. His papa showed him to penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was hooked on poker and wished to learn every little thing he possibly could about poker. He routinely told his elders that he was going to be a professional poker player. He didn’t allow the detrimental comments from others annihilate his goal of becoming one of the greatest poker competitors on the planet.
He began competing intently after getting a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his skills at the casinos of Atlantic City. The beginning few years for Phil were a learning opportunity and coming away with a win wasn’t a normal outcome at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he made 2 final tables and won his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the closing table he defeated many of the well known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He made a decision to take his skills to the next level and moved out west to Las Vegas. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Ivey credits his achievements to hard work and a continuing passion for the game of poker. He says that he’s learning every single day and is very abashed about his success. Phil admits to making mistakes in each game of poker and constantly strives to improve.
Although Ivey has won some big-time tournaments, he prefers winning cash games on a normal basis.
