Phil Ivey has been labeled as the greatest poker contender in the world by most of the top pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before his first birthday. His grandfather showed him to one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to learn every little thing he possibly could about poker. He routinely told his parents that he was going to be a professional poker player. He didn’t permit the detrimental comments from others annihilate his goal of becoming one of the strongest poker players on the planet.
Phil started playing intently after getting a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his game at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The initial few years for Phil were a teaching opportunity and winning wasn’t a regular thing at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 WSOP when he made two final tables and won his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the closing table he defeated a number of the better known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He decided to take his skills to the successive level and moved out west to Vegas. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Phil credits his achievements to dedication and an undying passion for the game of poker. Phil states that he’s picking up skills every single day and is quite humble about his success. He admits to making blunders in each session of poker and constantly aspires to improve.
Although Phil has come first in some large tournaments, he likes winning money games on a normal basis.
