Phil Ivey has been labeled as the greatest poker player on the planet by many of the top professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before reaching the age of one. His papa taught Phil one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to pickup anything he could about the game. He would tell his elders that he was going to be a professional poker player. Phil did not permit the adverse comments from others annihilate his ambition of being one of the greatest poker competitors on the planet.
He began competing seriously after getting a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his game at the casinos of Atlantic City. The beginning few years for him were a teaching experience and winning wasn’t a regular outcome at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he made 2 final tables and won his first WSOP bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the final table he defeated a number of the well known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He decided to take his skills to the next level and moved out west to Las Vegas. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Phil credits his success to hard work and a continuing love for the game of poker. Phil says that he is learning every single day and is quite abashed about his accomplishments. Phil admits to making mistakes in each game of poker and constantly aspires to get better.
Despite the fact that Phil has won some big tournaments, he likes destroying money games on a regular basis.
